The Blurb

Letters is a modern tool for the mentalist who wishes to add an effect simple and powerful with strong impact on spectators!

Jerome Sauloup has developed this routine in 2016, wanting to add a fun side to mentalism. By integrating the theme of board game known worldwide, Scrabble, Jerome marks the spirits.

As simple, it may seem, this is one of the biggest projects carried by the Magic Dream label to date and we are proud after almost two years of work to be able to offer you again this nugget of Jerome – With a bonus a brand-new explanatory video of more than an hour shot by Yoan & Jerome!

The routine is killer: the mentalist throws a paper ball in the public to select a spectator who joins him on stage. A bag transparent filled with letters from Scrabble is presented and the spectator draws several without looking at them. The choice is completely free!

When the mentalist shows the chosen letters, the spectator finds a word himself by reversing letters! Even stronger, the spectator opens the dumpling of paper he had on him from the start and the word has been written on it! The prediction is perfect!

Versatile, letters allow you to reveal any word, in any language and this in all situations. The letters were specially sourced so that they are readable from afar. The easel, specially manufactured, will do all the work for you in a very clever way, allowing you to focus on the presentation. Letters is a tour developed by a professional magician for professionals and has amazed a lot of magicians before its official release. It will quickly be integrated into your show.

Mark Elsdon

“Very good, that’s all.”
Mark Mason

“What a fun self-working little trick! I haven’t seen anything like this. Your spectators are literally going to see everything unfold right in front of them. It’s going to seem like absolute magic! So, the great thing is it can be pitched as mentalism, parlor trick, magic trick… This is magic that suits every performer! I think if you do any sort of close-up parlor style effects or you have that opportunity, this is a great trick to have!”

Jheff's Guide

WHAT IT IS:
Effect with Props

HOW ACCURATE OR COMPLETE THE AD COPY IS:
It’s accurate enough. It does claim that this can be used in any language and that’s not exactly true. It uses the a to z alphabet letters, which means this will not work as is in Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, or any other language that uses different characters. If you have a Scrabble game in that language, you could theoretically use it, though the Scabble tiles used for this are hollow and the method takes advantage of this.

SET-UP AND RE-SET:
There is an initial one-time set-up that should take less than half an hour. Once made, there is no set-up. The re-set involves putting the tiles back into the bag. It takes seconds to do, but it must be done out of sight of the audience.

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED THAT YOU NEED OR NEED TO KNOW:
For this to work, as the participant takes letters out of the bag, they are handed to the performer who puts the tiles on the tile rack. The participant does not choose which letters to pick. They must be randomly and blindly chosen. Also, any word can be used for the final reveal, but it needs to be a word in which the first and last letters are different. Typical Scrabble hands have seven letters, which is why the word should be seven letters long.

If this appeals to you, but the theme of Scrabble, or other similar word games, does not appeal to you, Jérôme Sauloup has released a version of this called, appropriately, NUMBERS, which allows the participant to pick numbers so that you can perform routines with themes like the lottery, bingo, or Roulette. The props in NUMBERS and the handling are exactly the same, except for having numbers instead of letters.

Also, this is identical in plot to Francis Menotti’s WORDSMYTH, but the tile rack uses a different method.

SUITABLE VENUES:
Close-up, Parlor, Stage

JHEFF’S JUDGMENT:
This is a clever and fooling gimmick for use with a mentalism routine involving the classic word game, Scrabble. If that theme appeals to you, then this is probably the best marketed version available and definitely recommended.
