The Blurb

NOTE: This is a PDF complete with printable cards that you print out.

Flight Plan is a pack small play big performance piece, where several audience volunteers go on an imaginary flight. Yet, without any questions, the performer knows not only where they started their imaginary trip, but where their final destination is.

It is based on the effect Pay Day, by Jack Vosburg. To make the booklet complete, for your convenience, there are two sets of cards included, one for stand-up/stage shows and the other for closeup. Just print out what you need.

EFFECT: The mentalist invites three volunteers to join him on stage. They are each given an envelope containing their “Flight Instructions”. A set of “Departure” cards are mixed and each spectator randomly selects a card to determine their “Point Of Departure”.

While the mentalist’s back is turned, the spectators open their Flight Instruction envelopes and match their Point Of Departure with the Point Of Departure in their Flight Instructions. This tells them what flight to take. Then they pick up their Boarding Passes that are on a table.

Turning around, the mentalist proclaims the first spectator’s departure and destination locations. The spectator displays their departure and destination cards from their ticket envelope and they match. This is repeated with the second and the third spectator and each time the mentalist correctly names their point of departure and, also their departure.

Jheff's Guide

WHAT IT IS:
28-page PDF

HOW ACCURATE OR COMPLETE THE AD COPY IS:
It’s accurate enough.

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED THAT YOU NEED OR NEED TO KNOW:
(list of what’s not included that the performer needs)

SET-UP AND RE-SET:
The materials must be created. They can be printed out from the PDF and then assembled (which involves cutting and pasting). Another option is to make custom materials in which case the time varies depending upon your graphic arts skills. No matter which, it is a one-time set-up (barring the necessary replacements over time as these are paper goods). The re-set is negligible as it just involves putting things back in envelopes.

ANGLES:
Some information needs to be secretly accessed. Experienced performers know how to handle this so that the angles are not an issue. If you are not an experienced performer, the PDF will provide some tips.

SUITABLE VENUES:
Close-up, Parlor, Stage

JHEFF’S JUDGMENT:
This Dan Tong classic, which was initially released a few decades ago, is now a 24-page PDF that contains all you need to print out and perform this professional and effective travel-themed routine. Included are both stage/parlor and close-up versions. It’s also quite affordable. Those reasons are enough for me to recommend this.
