Tossed out book
1984 is the only book test where your spectators will thank you for gaslighting them!
Super Flashback:
This is the core method featured in all of the Zandman Book Test titles:
Instantly know the word someone is thinking of without ever even seeing their word! Nothing to memorize, No questions asked, and Nothing is written down.
Ministry of Love:
A built-in version of the classic Pegasus Page that happens in your spectator’s hands from beginning to end!
Ministry of Truth:
The Princess Card trick, but with a book. A freely chosen word disappears. It was never there to begin with. And it all happens in your spectator’s hands!
Reverse Book Test:
A spectator stops you on ANY page in ANY book and you will know a word on the same page in 1984!
Tossed Out Book:
The classic Tossed Out Deck, but with a book. Five spectators each choose a word and you know their words!
Jheff's Guide
WHAT IT IS:
Specially produced version of George Orwell’s 1984
HOW ACCURATE OR COMPLETE THE AD COPY IS:
If you’re unfamiliar with the plot and themes of 1984, the ad copy might be a bit confusing. All the features of this particular book test are listed and described accurately though.
SET-UP AND RE-SET:
None, unless you use the Pegasus Page option. In that case, there is a one-time preparation of the book and the reset involves placing the separate page in the place where it needs to be at the start of the routine.
SUITABLE VENUES:
Close-up, Parlour, Stage, Walkaround, Internet
JHEFF’S JUDGMENT:
The brand-new Ministry of Truth feature, which fits the theme of 1984 extremely well, makes this one of one Josh Zandman’s better entries in his line of book tests. I’ve closed my show for decades with a version of Pegasus Page and, though I haven’t tried this book test out yet, I’m dubious of having both the Ministry of Truth and the Pegasus page in one book test as there is a risk that participants may discover something with the book they shouldn’t. Still, it’s a great new idea that’s worth checking out and it’s also less expensive than his other book tests (which, as I understand it, may be the new pricing for his book tests going forward).
