Back in the late 80s and throughout the 90s, I was fortunate to become good friends with one of the all-time giants in the world of magic, the late, great George Sands.

George created a ton of magic and is credited with a whole bunch of things that we now take for granted. I won’t go through the list, just trust me on this.

Some of my fondest memories in the Phoenix IBM Ring meetings would be when visiting lecturers would go to George (who always sat in the front row) to pick a card or something, see George’s name tag, and stop dead in their tracks, always saying something like, “Are you…?” The entire room would say, “Yes, that’s George Sands!”

They knew they were standing face to face with a legend. But I digress.

One of George’s many strokes of genius was published in the final issue of Pallbearers Review. It struck a chord with performers all over the world and is used by many to this day.

It’s a simple concept that allows a spectator to (for instance) find a selected card themselves. Or force a card on themselves. Those are the most basic uses of George’s discovery, but there is so much more.

In the more than five decades since that time, a great many have used George’s bit of genius to tremendous effect.

Sadly, I never knew about this amazing piece until after George had left us. I would have loved to sit down and discuss it with him, if for no other reason than I strongly suspect that he had additional work on the concept that never got published. My guess is that we will never know.

This is the first in-depth exploration of George Sands’ amazing ‘Prime Number Principle’.

If you are unfamiliar with this little touch of genius, do not let the reference to the seeming presence of ‘math’ deter you. There’s no math involved. It’s just based on a principle of numbers that is clever beyond all measure. I don’t know how George figured this out, but it’s amazing.

This is not a large book. In fact, if you wanted to, you could probably read the whole thing in one sitting, although I don’t recommend it. It’s far better to work through each example with playing cards or something similar in hand, just to see how easy and automatic everything is.

But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s a partial list of those whose work with this concept is included in these pages –

George Sands (obviously!)
Phil Goldstein (and Max Maven!)
Martin Gardner
Karl Fulves
Jon Racherbaumer
Aldo Colombini
Jacob Daley
Professor Hoffmann
Stewart James
Nick Trost
…and more (including multiple pieces from your intrepid author)

Keep in mind . . .

ZERO sleight of hand (unless you really want to throw some in)

Virtually ZERO memory work

It can be worked with practically any flat objects; playing cards and envelopes being the main culprits in these pages, but this material can be applied in dozens of ways.

In all, there are at least twenty-seven effects, and depending on how you count, well over thirty!

Plus, this amazing manuscript explores other ‘Sands-related’ pieces that are amazing in their own right.

All of this plus more in the bibliography.

In all this slim but pregnant volume (over SIXTY pages) is a treasure-trove of virtually self-working material wherein your helper does most, if not all of the work.

The book itself is perfect bound in card covers and turned out beautifully!

WHAT IT IS:
72 page PDF

HOW ACCURATE OR COMPLETE THE AD COPY IS:
It’s accurate enough.

JHEFF’S JUDGMENT:
Mark explores an intriguing principle that many may not know about, and this book offers more than two dozen routines that use it in a variety of ways. The principle can be applied far beyond playing cards, and the examples with Tarot cards, business cards, and slips of paper show its versatility. The main challenge is motivating the procedure so it doesn’t feel arbitrary, but Mark addresses this and provides guidance to help with that. Whether or not you use it, this is well worth learning or reacquainting yourself with, especially since it’s reasonably priced and ideal for effects performed over the phone, the Internet, or radio.
