The mentalist places an envelope on the table. A spectator chooses any card from the pack. Then she chooses any one of six different colored “invisible” markers. Finally, she merely THINKS of any of four common shapes. Along with the classic handling, the amazing bonus information on the instructional dvd includes two super-clean alternative envelope handlings plus two killer ideas where the spectator can think of ANY number between 1-20 or even the first letter of ANYBODY they know. And again, both are 100% free choices! Truly incredible!
My Comments
This is an extremely powerful effect, despite having playing cards used. The methodology does require some basic card sleights, but it does not work the way some may think. It's not a Mental Epic variation at all. The choice of marker color, shape, and playing cards are free choices, though there is a subtle control of one of those which I can't detail in this review, of course. It does involve having a special deck of cards. Unfortunately, the cards are the one element that can't be altered. Jay does discuss how to use initials or numbers instead of the colors and shapes, although I think colors and shapes are stronger.
The package comes with a DVD that has Jay demonstrating and explaining the effect and variations. You also get some extra cards which are necessary for the effect and an envelope. There is a one-time preparation involved and you do need to obtain a matching deck of cards. The cards I got were blue-backed Bicycle. If you don't mind using playing cards, then this is an extremely powerful effect and highly recommended.
