The Blurb

AK Dutt is a magician and mentalist with creations in both fields. He also works with existing effects and strives to customize and personalize them until, often, the variations make them appear new in his hands. This is an improved variation of Sum Total by Larry Becker.

The advantages are:
No need to use the services of your assistant like in the original effect. Therefore, it can be performed in a ‘one man show’ which makes the effect all the more convincing. No need to use the nail writer. No need to switch the number card. No wastage of any material as the number chips can be repeatedly used in all your shows. The three variations explained in the eBook will help you to perform the same effect to the repeat audiences. Systematic way of posting of numbers makes the trick much easier. Templates in PDF format of all the required materials are included with the eBook which helps you to make the set at your end.

WHAT IT IS:
E-Book, 28 pages

HOW ACCURATE OR COMPLETE THE BLURB IS:
It’s accurate, although if you’re not familiar with the original Some Total, the description may not make sense.  The routine involves a prediction being shown but not revealed.  Then a five-digit number (six in the original by Larry Becker) is built by having participants name numbers.  These are completely free choices.  The prediction is revealed and there a series of four digit numbers (five in the original).  When these numbers are totaled they match the freely built number.  It’s sort of an “Add-a-No” effect in reverse.

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED THAT YOU NEED OR NEED TO KNOW:
You will need to have number chips.  Templates to make them using desktop publishing are included in the manuscript.  Of course, you can always buy fancy ones if you search the Internet.

SUITABLE VENUES:
Parlour, Stage,

JHEFF’S JUDGMENT:
This version of the Larry Becker classic certainly is streamlined and easier to perform for the solo performer.  It’s inexpensive enough, so this is certainly worth studying and adapting to your style, if this routine interests you.
